Florence

About the city

Florence is as vital and beautiful today as when its wool and silk merchants and bankers revolutionized the economy of 13th century Tuscany, and the art of Dante and Michelangelo stunned the world. Florence was the centre of the Italian Renaissance. The fruits of the city’s rebirth are still evident in its seemingly endless array of museums, churches and palazzi. With its historic centre classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Duomo, the elegant and beautiful cathedral, dominates the city and is an unmistakable reference point in your wanderings. The River Arno, which cuts through the oldest part of the city, is crowned with the Ponte Vecchio bridge lined with shops and held up by stilts. Dating back to the 14th century, it is the only bridge that survived attacks during WWII. Standing by the river at night, when the city is illuminated with a myriad twinkling lights, is unforgettable. But more remains of Florence’s incomparable heritage than stones and paint, the city’s indomitable spirit has also survived the centuries, ensuring Florentine life today its liveliness and sophistication.

This colossal Romanesque fortress is one of the most impressive town halls in Tuscany.

Next, you will discover the Franciscan Basilica of Santa Croce; this fine example of Italian Gothic architecture contains beautiful frescoes by Giotto. Many important masters are buried here: Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli, to name just three. Then comes Piazza del Duomo, where the elegant cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore, the Virgin of the Flower is located here.

The tour ends in the Accademia Gallery, where you can admire the monumental statue of "David" by Michelangelo that once stood in front of Palazzo Vecchio.

Winery Visit & Guided Visit of Siena and San Gimignano

day 2 - Default - Default

Departing from and returning to Florence, this full day excursion begins with a visit to the picturesque village of San Gimignano, famous for the 13th century towers that stand as a testament to its medieval prosperity and the wealth of its merchants.

After a tour of San Gimignano you'll head to the Setriolo estate in Castellina in Chianti, known for their fine Chianti Classico and Riserva wines. A visit to the cellars and a guided wine tasting are included. Next stop will be lunch at the Osteria di Lornano, a lovely place serving typical Tuscan cuisine.

Afterwards, you will drive through the gorgeous Tuscan countryside to Siena. In this cradle of the Italian Gothic style, your expert, private guide will introduce you to the artistic marvels of the historic center. See the spectacular Duomo and baptistery, both of which beautifully symbolize the devout religious nature of the Sienese.

The city's heart is the gracious, shell-shaped main piazza, or Campo, site of the celebrated Palio - this thrilling horserace is run twice each summer, on July 2nd and August 16th. Looming over it is the Palazzo Pubblico(City Hall), a crenellated, medieval building that represents the independence and economic might of the Sienese oligarchy.

Time permitting, the driver will take a slight detour to Monteriggioni, a tiny village surrounded by high walls and 14 square towers. It is one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture in existence.

Naples

About the city

Most travellers hear the rumour Naples is a dirty, dangerous city not worth visiting. Nonsense. It is the heart of southern Italy, overflowing with energy and an abundant love of life. The local mafia gangs have earned the city its infamous reputation, but if you look beyond the fame, you’ll discover a city of breathtaking frescoes, sculptures and panoramas. Naples is rich in museums. The National Museum of Archaeology contains all the frescoes and jewellery excavated from Pompeii and outstanding sculpture and ceramics. The Galleria Nazionale features artists ranging from Massacio to Raphael. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s filled with royal palaces and castles. Stroll along the pedestrian seafront and enjoy delicious seafood dishes in one of its cosy restaurants. Neapolitans feel a cultural and communal identity that separated them from the rest of Italy; their passionate loyalties begin at home with the family, and, in many cases, end with the city. Ignore Naples’s honking horns and garbage-filled streets and enjoy a city of bewitching street life, of spontaneous conversations and profound humanity.

Mediterranean Cooking Class & Wine Tasting in Positano

day 3 - Default - Default

Immerse yourself in the tastes and traditions of the stunning Amalfi Coast in this small group wine tasting and seafood cooking class at a private villa in Positano.

OVERVIEW

Immerse yourself in the traditions, tastes, and sights of the Amalfi Coast with this small group wine tasting and seafood cooking class. A local family will greet you in their gorgeous whitewashed private home, which was one of the first houses to be build in Positano, and teach you how to prepare some typical Mediterranean dishes and how to pair them with wine.

The wine tasting and cooking class takes place on a sea facing terrace surrounded by a lush Mediterranean garden. The terrace has its own kitchen where you will get busy cooking after you have sampled the wines and the antipasti. Your class will start with a tasting of four glasses of wines (two reds and two whites) produced by local boutique wineries. The wines will be paired with local cheeses such as caciocavallo and scamorza, and accompanied by olive oil dips and balsamic vinegars.

The cooking class is hands-on and the food varies from day to day as the ingredients, mostly vegetables and seafood, are selected and bought fresh each day by the Chef. During the class, Chef Peter will share with you the cooking traditions and stories that have been passed down in his family, his love for the land where he lives and the people who every day produce organic high quality products. After preparing the meal, you'll seat down and enjoy the dishes you cooked with your fellow students while admiring amazing views of the Amalfi Coast.

This is an unforgettable experience in one of the most beautiful spots in the world, and is a must for anyone interested in Italian culture and cuisine.

Must-See Rome: Small Group Walking Tour

day 6 - Default - Default

This unique walking tour reveals the city's most beautiful monuments and the secrets of the Roman Dolce Vita

Next up is the Pantheon square, where the Pantheon - one of the greatest and best preserved Roman temples in existence is located. Piazza Navona comes next; here the Baroque age explodes with Gian Lorenzo Bernini's spectacular Four Rivers Fountain

Exclusive Early Access to the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums

day 8 - Default - Default

Explore the incomparable Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica one hour before the public opening to see these timeless masterpieces before the galleries become crowded with thousands of visitors, estimated at 25,000 every day!

This small group tour starts with a short introduction to the Vatican Museums, after which you will briskly proceed through the corridors to be one of the first inside the Sistine Chapel. One of the most famous painted interior spaces in the world, the chapel's decoration was started in 1481 by Renaissance masters, including Botticelli, Perugino, Pinturicchio and Luca Signorelli. Michelangelo began the ceiling in 1508 and spent four years here under difficult conditions, from extreme temperatures to weeks of contorted painting positions. Two of the most moving scenes are the Creation of Adam and the Expulsion from the Garden.

Continue your group tour through the Vatican Museums where your guide will introduce you to its impressive art collections. Admire the spectacular Gallery of the Candelabra, the dazzling optical illusions inside the Gallery of the Tapestries and the detailed maps of Italy frescoed on the walls of the Gallery of Maps. Not to be missed are the Raphael Rooms, regarded by critics as one of the greatest Renaissance painting cycles ever done.

The tour will end in St. Peter's Basilica. Here you will find Michelangelo's exquisite marble statue of the "Pieta'," right next to the tomb of Pope John Paul II, who died in 2005 and was made a saint in 2014.
