Taormina, Sicilia

Acerca da cidade

Taormina is a charming hillside town on the east coast of Sicily, Italy and is one of the island's main tourist resorts. Taormina has been a very popular tourist destination since the 19th century. It has popular beaches (accessible via an aerial tramway) on the Ionian Sea, which is remarkably warm and has a high salt content. Since the opening of the first hotel in 1874, Taormina has become one of the world top tourist destinations where visitors can experience a perfect combination of old times charming atmosphere, preservation of history and culture, an elegant and lively way of life to be enjoyed in relaxing walks through the old town pedestrian areas. The tourist has a lot to do and see: top level art performances at the Greek theatre, several painting exhibitions held in local palazzi and churches, fine elegant shopping along the famous “Corso Umberto” with its classical music coffees and pastry shops. Or visiting local art museums, taking naturalistic walks in the surrounding countryside, golfing at the nearby 18-holes green, enjoying the fantastic beaches at easy reach, where the mild Mediterranean climate allows to practice all water sports as swimming, scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing, or just sunbathing for nearly eight months a year and even more.

Catania, Sicilia

Acerca da cidade

Catania is the second largest city in Sicily. Buried seven times by fierce eruptions of the Etna volcano and several earthquakes, much of its monuments have been destroyed. Nonetheless, the old town is well maintained, so much so, that it was declared a World Heritage Site in 2002. In the city center visitors will be able to enjoy the major feature of the city: its baroque architecture. The main examples are the Cathedral Square, Piazza del Duomo ,with the Elephant Fountain, the adorned Cathedral, founded in the 11th century on the ruins of the ancient baths and the impressive 13th century Ursino Castle. The remains of the Roman and Greek heritage can still be witnessed at the former Acropolis of Katane that includes the Roman Theatre, built by Greeks and reconstructed by Romans, the Odeon and the Amphitheatre. Chaotic, noisy and boisterous, Catania’s nightlife is buzzing, hundreds of bars, clubs and eateries are at hand where to get infected with the joie de vivre of the city’s population.

Naples

Acerca da cidade

Most travellers hear the rumour Naples is a dirty, dangerous city not worth visiting. Nonsense. It is the heart of southern Italy, overflowing with energy and an abundant love of life. The local mafia gangs have earned the city its infamous reputation, but if you look beyond the fame, you’ll discover a city of breathtaking frescoes, sculptures and panoramas. Naples is rich in museums. The National Museum of Archaeology contains all the frescoes and jewellery excavated from Pompeii and outstanding sculpture and ceramics. The Galleria Nazionale features artists ranging from Massacio to Raphael. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it’s filled with royal palaces and castles. Stroll along the pedestrian seafront and enjoy delicious seafood dishes in one of its cosy restaurants. Neapolitans feel a cultural and communal identity that separated them from the rest of Italy; their passionate loyalties begin at home with the family, and, in many cases, end with the city. Ignore Naples’s honking horns and garbage-filled streets and enjoy a city of bewitching street life, of spontaneous conversations and profound humanity.

dia 7 - Default - Default

Immerse yourself in the tastes and traditions of the stunning Amalfi Coast in this small group wine tasting and seafood cooking class at a private villa in Positano.

OVERVIEW

Immerse yourself in the traditions, tastes, and sights of the Amalfi Coast with this small group wine tasting and seafood cooking class. A local family will greet you in their gorgeous whitewashed private home, which was one of the first houses to be build in Positano, and teach you how to prepare some typical Mediterranean dishes and how to pair them with wine.

The wine tasting and cooking class takes place on a sea facing terrace surrounded by a lush Mediterranean garden. The terrace has its own kitchen where you will get busy cooking after you have sampled the wines and the antipasti. Your class will start with a tasting of four glasses of wines (two reds and two whites) produced by local boutique wineries. The wines will be paired with local cheeses such as caciocavallo and scamorza, and accompanied by olive oil dips and balsamic vinegars.

The cooking class is hands-on and the food varies from day to day as the ingredients, mostly vegetables and seafood, are selected and bought fresh each day by the Chef. During the class, Chef Peter will share with you the cooking traditions and stories that have been passed down in his family, his love for the land where he lives and the people who every day produce organic high quality products. After preparing the meal, you'll seat down and enjoy the dishes you cooked with your fellow students while admiring amazing views of the Amalfi Coast.

Ravello

Acerca da cidade

For centuries, the irresistible allure of Ravello's stately villas and cliff edge gardens have been attracting the world's greatest artists to the tiny town perched high above the bay of Maiori: musicians such as Wagner, Grieg, Rostropovich, Toscanini, Bernstein; painters like Escher, Turner and Mirò; and writers the caliber of D.H Lawrence, Forster and Virginia Wolf all spent time here. Now, a well established cultural hotspot, today Ravello hosts high profile events such as the Ravello Festival and the Chamber Music Festival, which is organized by the Ravello Concert Society. Wonderfully aristocratic, devastatingly beautiful, Ravello patiently awaits the traveler who, from the Amalfi Coast's seaside fishing villages decides to make his way up to the town, perched on a great spur of rock, some 350meters above the sea. Constructed on the site of a settlement believed to have been built by a Roman colony fleeing from the barbarian invasions; in the 9th century Ravello became the elected refuge of a group of noble families from Amalfi, who had rebelled against the authority of the Doge.
